Chateau de la Roche

The medieval site which sits at 820 m at the northern limit of the Northern Vosges was built during the second half of the XIIIth century by the Knight of Rathsamhausen The Knights of Rudolfs and Hartmann von Racenhusen are mentioned in 1284 in the settlement of a dispute with the nobles of Andlau about territory situated on the Champ du Feu (ienhald Hochveldes).

The Rathsamhausen family has been very active in the Alsace where they possessed 22 chateaux. The massive tower adopts the irregular plan of the rock on a surface about 8×5 m with access via some steep steps/ladder.
