Chateau Fort de Meilhaud

The name Meilhaud would mean “middle of the waters” (popular etymology, which does not even respect Auvergne volcanic phonetics). Meilhaud belonged to Jean de Meilhaud in the 13th century, then to the dauphins d’Auvergne at the end of it, then to d’Allègre in the sixteenth century. many houses seem to have been constructed inside the old fort.
