Chateau de Villentrois

The first fortress was built in Villentrois in the XIIth century. This chateau belongs to the defense force of the comtes d’Anjou. During two centuries, the chateau belongs to the descendants of one of the greatest figures of the Middle Ages, Foulque-Nerra. Property of the of the famille d’Amboise in the XIVth century, the chateau passes into the XVth century to Philippe de Commynes. Commynes completely transformed the chateau, to make of it a fortress comparable with that of Langeais. This is what formed the current chateau. but then again, the owners do not remain at the chateau for more than one century, It is then sold to Les Chatillon in the XVIth century, then to les d’Etampes. After the French revolution the Chateau, uninhabited, falls gentley into ruin due to lack of maintenance.
